Central Finland welcomes drivers and rally fans +
Mecania Automation Oy located in Palokka, Jyväskylä, found a german business partner through Jykes's Euro Challenge -programme. Mecania Automation manufactures components' processing equipment for light machine construction industry and also operates as a contract manufacturer. When Matti Kyllönen, CEO of Mecania Automation was contacted from Jykes and asked whether he was interested in internationalising his business, he answered yes out of curiosity.
"We have given a lot of thought to internationalisation for some time. We want to expand our operations, although the market in Finland is not fully covered yet", says Kyllönen.
During Euro Challenge -programme, representatives of Mecania Automation visited Dresden to familiarize with German Xenon's operations. Management from Xenon made a return visit to Palokka. To reinforce international ties, language studies were organized for the personnel of Mecania and the company's brochures were translated into English.
As a result of beginning the internationalisation process, the company noticed that the world is not as big as it seems from the SMEs' perspective. According to the managing director, the threshold to expand operations beyond Finnish borders was lowered significantly.
"When you do not have international contacts, you have to start from the beginning. Some fears and suspicions towards internationalisation may exist, but they can be dissipated by visiting companies and cooperation partners abroad.
Kyllönen, the managing director of Mecania Automation, says that for SMEs motivation and belief that your product can succeed in international markets are the most important factors in internationalisation process. He points out that the first step towards internationalisation has been taken by participating in the Euro Challenge -programme. The actual work for gaining new markets still lies ahead and this work requires time and patience.
