The rapidly developing Jyväskylä Region comprises an area of seven municipalities (Jyväskylä, Laukaa, Muurame, Uurainen, Hankasalmi, Petäjävesi, Toivakka) located in Central Finland, with a total population of over 170 000.

The City of Jyväskylä, the Rural Municipality of Jyväskylä and the municipality of Korpilahti merged into one city, Jyväskylä, in January 2009. As a result, the City of Jyväskylä became the seventh largest city in Finland and has over 130 000 inhabitants.

The positive growth of the region is the result of careful planning, a high level of local expertise, and the successful co-operation between the local government, companies and the educational institutes of the region.

First class location

The Jyväskylä Region can easily be reached by road, rail and air and is ranked as having the second best location for a city in Finland. Jyväskylä forms crossroads for Finland's main highways, which has helped it to become an increasingly important centre of road transport.

The journey from Helsinki to Jyväskylä by air takes about 35 minutes. It takes about 20 minutes to drive from the airport to the centre of Jyväskylä. Using the fast Pendolino train, the journey from Helsinki to Jyväskylä can be made in three hours.
