Conference on finding ways through Climate Change will be held in Riga in November

BalticClimate Conference Pathfinding through Climate Change” will be held in Riga, Latvia, November 8th-9th 2011 to be a platform for exchange of ideas and knowledge relevant to climate change in the Baltic Sea Region.

The Conference is organised to present the results of the project “Baltic Challenges and Chances for local and regional development generated by Climate Change” (BalticClimate) and to enhance the discussion on the climate change subject.

An overview of possible climate changes in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) will be presented by Dr. Mattias Hjerpe (The University of Linköping, Sweden), followed by experiences in adaptation to climate change and mitigation of climate change impacts in Transport, Energy, Agriculture and Planning/Housing sectors. A panel discussion with representatives from Policy Making, Spatial Planning and Business will be facilitated by a professional journalist.

The BalticClimate Toolkit will be presented to the public for the first time during the conference. An information and communities technologies Toolkit is a computer assisted compilation of newly developed exercises, methodology and experiences in 12 languages. It is transferable and easy to use for municipalities as well as the local and regional stakeholders throughout the whole Baltic Sea region.

Especially for this occasion a Multimedia Dome with climate change visualizations will be brought to Riga from Sweden. The Dome will be available for visitors by prior arrangement.

Posters describing aims and backgrounds of implementation cases carried out within the BalticClimate project and the main conclusions made during the process will also be exhibited in the conference.

BalticClimate has been carried out by 23 Project Partners and further Associated Organisations from 8 Baltic Sea Region countries and is financed under the Baltic Sea Region Programme within the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

BalticClimate has been selected as one of the flagship projects that anticipate regional and local impact of climate change through research within European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. It contributes the Strategy in aspects of mitigation and adaptation to climate change and therefore making Baltic Sea Region an environmentally sustainable place.
