New issue of the online journal Human Technology out now
The most current issue of the online scholarly journal Human Technology: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Humans in ICT Environments is now available. The issue provides four papers investigating various insights into human-technology interaction.
The first paper in the issue explores the nature of collaboration, social interaction, and knowledge sharing in professional social networks. Next, a paper presents a grounded theory analysis of multiple data sources drawn from a team’s work on designing an online folder structure. Asymmetrical relations between the work analysis and the design artifacts, and between the design artifacts and the interaction design, offer suggestions on how to improve the human work interaction design framework and approach to artifact design. The third article presents research from Hong Kong workers and their experiences of ICT connectedness, flexibility and permeability in the borders between work and home life, and instances of negative spillover between these domains, and how these impact workers’ burnout and their job and family satisfaction.
The author concludes that a worker’s personal control over what crosses the boundaries between work and home—and not the 24/7 connectedness with ICTS—impacts a worker’s potential for burnout and satisfaction. The final paper presents a new methodology for tapping innovative thinking for technology products. In particular, the focus is on an activity that can be supported across various settings and circumstances by way of multiple technology platforms.
