Finnish environmental technology makes an entry into China’s markets
Long-term collaboration between the cities of Jyväskylä in Finland and Kunming in China has now begun to produce results in the field of environmental technology. The sludge treatment plant to be built in Kunming is one of the pioneering Finnish environmental projects in the country. The proposal for this building project was born as a result of collaboration between Kunming's environmental authorities and Jyväskylä Regional Development Company Jykes Ltd.
Engineering company MK Protech Ltd is responsible for the planning of the sludge treatment plant. The estimated value of the project is € 24 million, with the Finnish contribution being about € 12 million. MK Protech Ltd has also recently won two biogas plant projects in Finland.
The foundation stone of the sludge-treatment plant will be laid in Kunming on May 4, 2010, by Mauri Pekkarinen, the Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs. Prior to this, Mr. Pekkarinen will open Finland's pavilion at the Shanghai World Exhibition. The objective of the Minister's visit to China is to promote economic cooperation between the two countries and to support Finnish projects in China. Markku Andersson, the Mayor of Jyväskylä, Risto Jämsén, Jyväskylä Regional Development Company Jykes Ltd's Managing Director and Heikki Kutinlahti, MK Protech Ltd's project manager will also be participating in the event.

Also many thanks goes to Finland's former ambassador to China, Mr. Pasi Rutanen, for his personal contribution, as well as to Jykes for all its exceptional efforts", says MK Protech Ltd's project manager Heikki Kutinlahti.
Jykes has been an active party in the realisation of the project. In the future, Jykes will be making further investments in Asia, which is an increasingly important growth region. The excellent networks of the University of Jyväskylä have also helped to further the project.
