Sauna bar to be built in the middle of Jyväskylä’s pedestrian precinct

The sauna built onto the bar is the genuine item, offering guests the chance to relax in its steamy heat.
The sauna bar, which forms part of the Sauna from Finland concept, is to be built in Aren aukio, a square at one end of Jyväskylä's pedestrian precinct, and will be open to the public from 18.-23.12. 12-18. Passers-by will have the chance to take a break from their Christmas shopping and drop into the sauna bar to enjoy a magic drink made to a secret recipe. The sauna bar was designed by architect Jarkko Könönen.
The sauna bar is the latest and certainly the most unusual service innovation of 2009 from those behind the Sauna from Finland concept.
The aim of the Sauna from Finland concept is to turn the Jyväskylä Region, and more broadly Central Finland, into an international innovation centre for sauna culture. Facing up to the challenge is a broad coalition of entrepreneurs from the sauna equipment, tourism, wellness and service branches. The Sauna from Finland concept is aimed at generating new business, including new product and service concepts, and boosting the image of the Jyväskylä Region.

Mayor Markku Andersson becomes Sauna from Finland's first ambassador

Markku Andersson, Mayor of Jyväskylä, has been appointed as Sauna from Finland's first ambassador. His job is to spread the word about the benefits of sauna and to market Central Finland as its spiritual home.
The new sauna ambassador will be presented with the sauna sceptre, to be circulated annually, at the opening of the Sauna from Finland sauna bar in Jyväskylä's pedestrian precinct on Thursday 17.12. which starts at16.00.
"The Jyväskylä Region is pursuing an increase in the number of recreational visitors. Physical recreation, health and wellness are important spearheads in the development of tourism, too", Mayor Markku Andersson underlines.
Various companies and organisations have been involved in the ideation and construction of the sauna bar, including Jyväskylä Regional Development Company Jykes Oy, Jyväskylän Elävä Kaupunkikeskusta ry (Jyväskylä city centre development association), the City of Jyväskylä and a large number of enterprises, chiefly from Central Finland, such as Vapo Timber Oy, Siparila Oy, Harvia Oy, Restaurant Sohwi, Rakennuspalvelu Arto Matilainen Oy, Keuruun Laatupaino KLP Oy, Teko-Kaihdin Oy, Lasituspalvelu Pihlavamäki Oy and Uulatuote Oy. The sauna bar is part of a larger project to revamp Jyväskylä's Christmas Village, which is being arranged for the fourth time.

The opening of the Sauna from Finland Bar for representatives of the media and invited guests will take place in Aren aukio at the bottom end of Jyväskylä's pedestrian precinct on Thursday 17.12. from 16.00 onwards. On hand will be Markku Andersson, Mayor of Jyväskylä, the team behind the sauna bar, as well as representatives of various companies and partners of the Sauna from Finland concept.
